Biography

Dr. Rachel Anne Coel is a Sports Medicine Physician with dual board certifications in General Pediatrics and Sports Medicine. She currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Hawai’i JABSOM. For her undergraduate studies, she attended the University of California Berkeley where she got her B.A. in Sociology. Dr. Coel received her MD and PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her residency was completed at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in general pediatrics. Dr. Coel's journey also includes a Pediatric Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Department of Family Practice/Children’s Hospital Colorado. She works at the Kapi’olani Bone & Joint Center, where she has served in leadership roles and provided exemplary care to patients. Recognized for her contributions, she has received numerous honors and awards, including being named among HONOLULU Magazine’s Top Doctors in Hawaii multiple times. Dr. Coel is deeply committed to service, volunteering her expertise to organizations such as the Hawaii Concussion Awareness & Management Program and the World Surf League. Her passion for community health extends to her active involvement in various sports events and school programs, where she serves as a team physician and provides medical coverage. Dr. Coel's dedication to advancing pediatric sports medicine and promoting overall well-being underscores her profound impact on healthcare in Hawai'i and beyond.
